Siraj Shaikh is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the International Institute of Software Technology (IIST), United Nations University (UNU), Macau SAR China, since 1st October 2006. He is also a Lecturer in Computer Networking at the Department of Computing, University of Gloucestershire, UK, where he joined in 2002 and is currently on sabbatical leave.

 Prior to joining Gloucestershire, he worked as a Research Assistant in the School of Computer and Management Sciences (CMS), at the Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), UK. At SHU, his work investigated the deployment of endpoint-to-endpoint encryption on public communication networks, including latency introduced in networks due to security protocols such as IPSec, VPN architectures and their impact on network performance, impact on network performance due to real-time multimedia traffic and impact of security protocols on the performance of Bluetooth networks. He also acted as a technical liaison for the Regional Multimedia Test-bed (REMIT) project at SHU, deploying and configuring IEEE 802.11b networks.

His doctoral research has investigated the area of formal analysis of authentication protocols. His effort has included developing a formal specification of authentication using signal events in CSP and using it to specify properties for various protocols including Kerberos and, a heuristic approach to assist in the rank function verification and optimisation of automatic approaches to such analysis. He has published over 17 refereed publications, and is a member of the British Computer Society (BCS).
